NEW YORK — Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, David Beckham and Jessica Biel will help honor teenagers who are trying to help solve social problems in a Nickelodeon special.
The Teen Nick HALO Awards will air Nov. 6 with Nick Cannon as host. HALO stands for “helping and leading others.”
Gaga is honoring Emily-Anne Rigal. She’s a 17-year-old from Williamsburg, Va., who started the anti-bullying website and YouTube channel WeStopHate after she had to switch schools because she was bullied about her weight.
Gaga said Rigal has “strong convictions and a beautiful soul” and she took interest in her work because she feels passionate about anti-bullying efforts.
“I want families to take responsibility for raising their kids to honor one another,” Gaga said.
James O’Dwyer, 19, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., started a disaster relief effort for people in his city and surroundings hit hard by tornadoes in April. Swift took notice of his work.
Shanoah Washington, 18, escaped an area of gang violence in California when her grandmother moved her to St. Petersburg, Fla. A spoken word artist, she started Sista2Sista, a mentoring program to motivate young girls, an issue that Biel has taken interest in.
Beckham, a Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder, is paired with Kyle Weiss, 18, of Danville, Calif. A soccer fan, Weiss and his brother started FundAField, an organization that raises money to build soccer fields in developing countries in Africa. Nine have been built so far.

Jessica is asking everyone, in honor of her 29th birthday, to donate money to her on-going cause, awareness of the water crisis. This is wonderful, below is Jessica’s reqeust!
Right now, almost a billion people on the planet don’t have access to clean, safe drinking water. That is one in eight of us. Unsafe water causes 80 percent of diseases, and the time spent collecting water (often hours of walking to the source) keeps children out of school and women from pursuing economic growth.
Last year, friends and I hiked to the top of a mountain and endured torrential rain and a blizzard in hopes that our adventure would inspire others to find a way to help alleviate the clean water crisis…
Here is a way to help! $5,000 builds a well that will serve 250 people with clean water. This year, I want to team up with all of you to celebrate my 29th birthday by raising $5,000 TODAY to build one clean water project.
I am asking my friends, family, and Humpilates devotees to donate $29 to build a water well and provide clean, safe drinking water to a community in need.
100 percent of donations will be directed towards our water project and in 18 months, we will have GPS coordinates on Google Maps and photos of the well that we built together. Please help me reach my goal!
Fondly,
Jesse Biel
I will be making my donation later today to honor Miss. Biel! You may do so HERE.
