State again hosts stars and Upstate extras

As an extra in “Nailed,” I was originally cast as a U.S. senator. My role was to be one of about a hundred “senators” seated in the legislative chamber. But when the assistant casting director came up short on “news reporters,” I was moved to a position directly behind Jessica and Jake. My friends from “Leatherheads” have been kidding me about just how that happened. My explanation: “just being in the right place at the right time.”
Director Russell is a “perfectionist.” Some might say he’s “obsessive-compulsive.” Russell reshot one dramatic monologue where Jessica Biel, playing the part of an uninsured receptionist, addresses Congress in support of a bill to fund national health care. Biel faithfully cried on each shoot.
This finally precipitated a Jake Gyllenhaal “temper tantrum.” Jake slammed his fists on his legislative desk, followed by a verbal exchange with the director. This particular legislative desk just happened to be the desk used by former House Speaker Emeritus Sol Blatt. I immediately looked up at Speaker Blatt’s portrait hanging in the chamber, fully expecting the speaker to reprimand Jake for this conduct. Speaker Blatt’s portrait seemed to look down on the proceedings with a scowl.
It’s a wrap for ‘Nailed’ in Columbia

“Nailed” has finished filming in Columbia for good after the shoot never resumed from weekend walk-off by movie crews who said they were not getting paid.
Producers were hoping to resume filming Monday, but crews refused to work on the comedy starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel, Variety reported.
It’s unclear if producers have enough money to get the movie into theaters.
The independent movie’s backer, Capitol Films, received financing this month that was supposed to be enough to finish the shoot that had already been halted three times because of union pay disputes, sources told The Hollywood Reporter.
However, filmmakers might not have enough money to get the movie into post-production, sources told The Hollywood Reporter.
“One more shutdown will kill the movie,” a film executive told the trade publication.
On Friday, members of International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees forced the movie’s fourth stoppage in six weeks, Variety and L.A. Weekly reported.
Stage union members had walked off twice before after not getting paid. In early May, the Screen Actors Guild ordered members off the set because not enough money was put into accounts used to pay actors.
David O. Russell Film Shut Down 4th Time

This has truly turned out to be the indie film shoot from hell. The political comedy Nailed, directed and co-written by David O. Russell and starring Jessica Biel and Jake Gyllenhaal, was shut down by IATSE on Friday for the same reasons as before: crew not getting paid. I can’t imagine why anyone would do business with David Bergstein’s Capitol Films again because of all the financing turmoil…
From what I was told, the filming already stopped and they had their second wrap party where Jesse and Jake both attended but no cameras were there.
Otis worked his way (literally) into Wednesday night’s wrap party for “Nailed” for this special Saturday edition of On the Scene.
Precious Smith was a golden princess.
A gold purse hung from her shoulder, and beads sparkled on her gold heels with tiered ankle straps. One of the two cell phones she regularly checked was clipped to a gold belt.
And her nail tips were painted a safari of black, white and, of course, gold.
Smith was one of the best-looking guests at Liberty Taproom, the Vista bar that hosted Wednesday night’s wrap party for “Nailed.”
Really, it was more like a night off for the cast and crew, as the screwy comedy, beset by financing problems, hasn’t completed production.
Weird they’d host the wrap party before it’s even wrapped?
