Columbia (WLTX) — On Friday, Columbia police say three streets in the Capital City will be closed while film crews work on the movie “Nailed,” that stars Jessica Biel and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Police say that on Two Notch Road between North Beltline Boulevard and Windover Street will be closed for parts of Friday, from 12 noon until 6 p.m.

They say crews will use a similar technique on Bronx Road, between Two Notch Road and West Beltline Boulevard, and Belvedere Drive, between Two Notch Road and Windover Street. Those streets will be closed and re-opened from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

‘Nailed’ cast, crew invading SC treasurer’s office    speak    Posted by Stephen

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Most of us won’t ever make it onto the set of a Hollywood film, but Scott Malyerck will. For the next week, his office is the set. He says, “It’s exciting to see what goes on behind making a movie.”

Malyerck works in the treasurer’s office on the State House grounds. For the movie “Nailed,” it’s been transformed into a congressman’s office. That means new blinds, new curtains, and even a fresh coat of paint. Malyerck says, “I think we get to keep all of that stuff when it’s done.”

Scott will be working around the crew for the rest of the week, watching as stars Jessica Biel and Jake Gylenhaal make their way in and out. He’d really like to meet Biel. “I hope they don’t have to issue a restraining order, but I do hope to meet her.”

So does USC student Cason Gaither. He already knows what he’ll say. “I’d ask her if she wanted to run some lines. I’d like to help her rehearse some scenes.”

While that’s probably not going to happen, Gaither says even the chance to meet big Hollywood stars is pretty cool. “Where else can you walk down the streets of Columbia and have a chance to meet a movie star? It’s a rare opportunity for South Carolinians.”

Rarer still is having the movie stars share your office. Malyerck says, “We’re looking forward to going to the movies and seeing our offices and Columbia, SC, on film.”

He’ll get the chance when the movie is released next year.

R-rated film gets G-rated description    speak    Posted by Stephen

When Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel come to town to film a movie, that’s kind of cool.

So what if that movie is about a receptionist who has a nail shot into her head “eliciting wild sexual urges” and meets a congressman who takes advantage of “her sex drive,” as The Hollywood Reporter described the film in November?

Not exactly the kind of stuff you tout to the Palmetto crowd.

“ ‘Nailed’ is a political satire in which Sammy Joyce (Biel) … goes on a crusade to Washington to fight for the rights of the ‘bizarrely injured’ and meets an immoral congressman (Gyllenhaal),” is how the S.C. Department of Commerce described the movie in a news release last month.

The Commerce folks say they got the G-rated description straight from the production company.

Guess Jake and Jessica, on their own, are sexy enough for most folks.

Official Casting Call For “Nailed”    speak    Posted by Stephen

Hundreds of extras are needed for background work in the new film “Nailed” starring Jessica Biel and Jake Gyllenhaal and directed by David O. Russell.

Casting directors are searching for many people, especially girls ages 7 to 12 years old, to work as extras on the film which will start shooting this spring in the Columbia area.

Interested parties should bring a non-returnable current snapshot of themselves. No photos will be taken at the casting call. They can be anything, including digital photos printed from a computer or a Polaroid. All they ask is that the shot is current.

“Nailed” is an original comedy about a small-town waitress who gets a nail lodged in her head which causes some unpredictable behavior. That leads her to Washington, D.C. where a young, but clueless, senator takes up her cause.

Casting for girls ages 7 to 12 will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, at the Dutch Square Mall (Center Court), 421 Bush River Road in Columbia. Casting for all extras will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, in the same location.

Production is also looking for vehicles from the ’50s, ’70s and ’90s. Photos of vehicles may be brought to the casting call or those with such vehicles can contact the production crew at nailedcasting@gmail.com.

Maybe a fan from this site will be hired as an extra, how cool would that be!

Marsden, Keener, And Morgan Get Nailed    speak    Posted by Stephen

This is one of those movies that has a premise so incredibly bizarre, yet has cast so strong, that I figure there is some promise I am simply not seeing. David O. Russell’s romantic comedy Nailed already stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel, and The Hollywood Reporter says that the film has now added Catherine Keener, James Marsden and Tracy Morgan to the cast.

The plot follows a naive waitress, Alice, who is shot in the head with a nail. The injury causes her behavior to be erratic and outrageous (the IMDb says it causes her to become a sexually adventurous bombshell), and she heads to Washington to campaign on behalf of better health care for the freakishly injured. She ends up falling for a young and clueless new congressman, who must summon up his political courage to save her. Biel plays the waitress, Gyllenhaal the congressman. Keener will be playing a self-serving congresswoman, and Marsden the small-town boyfriend of Alice. Hopefully he’s not the one who shot her with a nail. Morgan’s character has yet to be decided.

Like I said, there is probably something I am not seeing. The script is penned by Russell and Kristen Gore, so the charm must lie there. But is the waitress’ naivete the reason she was shot in the head? Or is she naive because she thinks her insurance will cover the cost of her injury? And must James Marsden lose a girl not only to Wolverine, to Superman and to Patrick Dempsey, but to Congressman Jake Gyllenhaal too?

To be fair, I’m willing to give Mr. Russell a fair shot after the surprisingly unique Three Kings — although people still keep dissuading me from seeing I Heart Huckabees.

Biel and Gyllenhaal film in South Carolina    speak    Posted by Stephen

COLUMBIA, S.C. – March 3, 2008 – The South Carolina Department of Commerce and the state Film Commission today announced the second major feature film that will soon begin filming in South Carolina in 2008. “Nailed” staring Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel will be produced by Red Wagon Entertainment, Persistent Entertainment, and The Gotham Group and directed by David O. Russell. The film will shoot in Richland and Lexington Counties.

“Nailed” is a political satire in which Sammy Joyce (Biel) – an uninsured small-town receptionist – goes on a crusade to Washington to fight for the rights of the “bizarrely injured” and meets an immoral congressman (Gyllenhaal).

The screenplay was written by David O. Russell and Kristin Gore – the daughter of Former Vice President Gore.

South Carolina was chosen as the location for the film for a variety of reasons. Persistent Entertainment had previously worked with the Film Commission on a feature film in York, Chester, and Kershaw Counties. Additionally, the production companies sought to replicate the U.S. Capitol and chose the South Carolina capital building as a site for filming.

With the Writer’s Guild strike now ended, the state has moved forward announcing a string of new productions. Earlier this year, the Film Commission announced “The New Daughter” – a feature film starring Kevin Costner – began shooting along the coast of South Carolina. Additionally, “Army Wives” should begin its second season of production in Charleston soon.

“Nailed” is currently in preproduction. Individuals interested in applying to work on the production can email resumes to: NAILEDPRODUCTION@GMAIL.COM.
